Ventricular tachycardia, which is an extremely fast heart rate, and ventricular fibrillation, which is an abnormal heart rhythm, are symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), which is caused by an electrical problem with the heart. SCA can be fatal if it is not treated right away. If defibrillation is not administered within ten minutes after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, approximately ninety-five percent of the victims will die.
